So, you want to see what it takes to grow the prefect potato crop for the potato chip industry? Sunrise Potato has been growing potatoes in Alliston – Ontario’s potato capitol, for the past 23 years. They know a thing or two about getting the perfect potato and FlyPress Films is documenting the process.  FlyPress Films has been working with Owner/Partner Peter VanderZaag to create an educational video series capturing each stage of the potato process, from planting, to harvest, to storage in their state of the art potato storage facility.

Peter also shares many insights on how they have been able to minimize their impact on the environment while still running an economically viable farm AND yielding a suitable crop for the chipping industry.  They accomplish this by running a six year crop rotation promoting soil health, utilizing 23,000 square feet of solar panelling on the storage facility roof, and continually making choices for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

I think an appropriate place to start is from the beginning of the potato process.  Grab a bag of ‘Lays’ potato chips, sit back and enjoy! …And stay tuned for more in the educational video series…
